Mark & Jane Bateman of Cornucopia Glass, have been making glass pieces, like the items you see before you, since they arrived in Victoria in 1978.
Each sculpture is crafted by Mark from high-fire borosilicate glass, in an open flame of propane and oxygen.
The technique is variously known as Flameworking or Lampworking; an ancient art form, practiced by many cultures for thousands of years.
A wide array of coloured and dichroic glasses are employed, resulting in a unique blend of colour and style.
Jane puts the finishing touches on each figurine to prepare them for final display.
Please enjoy this cornucopia of collectible glass sculpture.
….and for the jewelry…..
Jane carefully assembles each piece, often with complementary beads, further enhancing the final effect.
We hope the piece you select will bring pleasure for many years to come
“I have always enjoyed creating, making and building all kinds of things. Over thirty years ago I was lucky enough to be introduced to glass flame-working; it became my vocation, incorporating many of the activities I enjoy. After a few years of practice and the acquisition of necessary technical skills, I never looked back and during my career I have made countless glass pieces, of all descriptions”.
“Recent development of new coloured and dichroic glasses have enhanced my appreciation of the medium and have spurred me to develop yet new skills and products, particularly our line of glass jewelry pendants”.
“Jane and I have always worked together, in life and in our business.
Without Jane, everything would indeed fall apart; she manages all aspects of our production, distribution, accounting….and me! She lends an invaluable artistic and graceful touch to all our endeavours; it is wonderful to be able to combine our various skills and make a living too”.
